Do You Belong?

E-mail Print PDF

Are you an active member?
The kind who would be missed?
Or are you just contented
that your name is on the list?

Do you attend the meetings
and mingle with the flock?
Or do you meet in private
and criticize and knock?

Do you take an active part
to help the work along?
Or are you satisfied to be
the kind that just belongs?

Do you work on committees?
To this there is no trick;
or leave the work to just a few,
and talk about the click?

Please come to the meetings often,
and help with hand and heart.
Don't be just a member
but take an active part.

Think this over, members,
you know what's right from wrong.
Are you an active member,
or do you just belong?

Goblin Patrol

E-mail Print PDF

Think your " too old " to enjoy Trick-or-Treat ?? THINK AGAIN !!!

This Monday, October 31, The Pickaway ARES will be conducting our 2nd annual " Goblin Patrol" .  During Trick-or-treat , ARES members will be walking and driving around Circleville watching out for the  trick-or-treaters. Our main roll is to report any unsafe situations (ie: unsafe drivers, unsafe activities, etc.) that we see during the hours of trick-or-treat. This year the hours are from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.

All members are encouraged to help out and help protect our little " Goblins" so they can have a safe and fun trick-or-treat!!

Any ARES members wanting to participate need to check into the " Goblin" net at 5:00pm.  Elijah, KD8NSA, will be the net control during the event. He is the operator that we will report any issues to. He, in turn, will have direct contact to the Circleville Police Departments dispatcher.

The net will be on the 442.700 Mhz.(+) repeater. Be sure to wear your ARES vests and ID badges to identify yourselves. Any questions?? if so, contact Rich, KC8ITO, Pickaway ARES Emergency Coordinator.

GOBLIN PATROL SUCCESS!!

E-mail Print PDF

This years Trick-or-treat " Goblin Patrol"  October 31st was a HUGE success!!

Pickaway Amateur Radio Emergency Service (PARES) members started checking into the "net" at 5:00pm with trick-or-treat starting at 5:30pm and ending at 7:00pm.

During trick-or-treat, PARES members walked around neighborhoods in Circleville watching out for any safety issues that they might see ( ie: wreckless drivers or any other troubles that might be a concern to the safety of the trick-or-treaters). If any problem were to arise, the ham operator would notify the net control station who in turn would notify the Circleville Police Department dispatcher via a direct phone call to the dispatch room in the CPD. Luckily there were no issues to report.

   PARES members participating in the Goblin Patrol were: KD8NSA ( net control station), KC8ITO, KC8ITN, KD8QLS, KD8DDC, KC2CYJ, N4RSP, KC8CAY, KC8VWO.

A BIG THANKS GOES OUT TO ALL THAT HELPED OUT TO MAKE THIS EVENT THE SUCCESS IT WAS!! Looking out for our community is what it's all about!

2010 was a busy and enjoyable year for the Pickaway Amateur Radio Emergency Service (PARES).  Some of the things that PARES participated in included:  Weather Spotter training put on by the National Weather Service, A good turn out for the annual Tour of the Sioto River Valley (TOSRV), 2010 Field Day at A.W.Marion State Park campground, and our first annual "Goblin Patrol" in which we had communications available and ARES operators out on the streets during Halloween in Circleville.

Here are the 2010 stats for PARES:  Membership increase of 43% from Jan. to Dec..  There were 46 Test/Drills/training sessions that totaled 319.36 man hours.  And there were 2 Public Service events that totaled 130 man hours.

Lets make 2011 even better than 2010!! Lets participate, participate, participate when ever we can!
